Postdoctoral Research Fellow
University of the Free State, South Africa
Dr. Joshua C. Nwabuife is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Pharmacology, University of the Free State, South Africa. He is currently the Head of Nano Drug Delivery Unit in the department, lectures Drug Delivery Systems Module at the Postgraduate (Honours) level, and Co-Supervises Postgraduate students. He obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2023, and has published articles in different Q1 journals such as Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews (ADDR), amongst others. He is currently a visiting researcher to the Department of Pharmacology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he also co-supervises Masters and Ph.D. students. He is also a collaborator with three other Universities in South Africa, where he acts as a co-supervisor to their Postgraduate students. He currently serves as a Mentor in the Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship (FLMF) Program hosted by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
His area of research stems from the design and development of various Nano delivery systems for the delivery of natural products (Medicinal Plants), newly synthesized Scaffolds (drug-like molecules), peptides, and already in use anticancer chemotherapeutic agents for the targeted treatment of cancer, and the design of Nano delivery systems to improve the treatment efficacy of various antimicrobials against infectious diseases and improve the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), to the use of natural products as a source of new drug-like molecules for photodynamic therapy in cancer treatment.
